Sidoarjo is situated on the north-east tip of the island of Java in Indonesia. It is a business-oriented, industrial town neighbouring Surabaya, the second largest city in Indonesia.
Sidoarjo has a definite small-town feel to it, with a fairly tight-knit community. Sidoarjo is also ideally located for those who really want to get out and explore East Java, with its volcanoes, and traditional towns. Sidoarjo’s proximity to the airport in Surabaya means that trips to Bali and travel to the rest of Indonesia are also possible. There is little night-life in Sidoarjo itself, but Surabaya can be reached quite easily at the weekend.
Points of interest in the Sidoarjo area include three spots on the coast, Kepetingan, Pucukan, and Gesik Cemandi and seven unique temples. There are many cultural events held by the local government to attract people to come to Sidoarjo. In addition, watching national football league games at the weekend in the Gelora Delta stadium is an interesting alternative.
In recent years, Sidoarjo has grown and developed very rapidly. This has happened because of its strategic location close to Surabaya, the capital of East Java Province. Many investors have come to Sidoarjo to expand their businesses, and quite a lot of employees working in Surabaya commute to work every day from Sidoarjo.
Sidoarjo is also known as an industrial city, and many big manufacturers are based in Sidoarjo. One of the best known commodities from Sidoarjo is leather products, such as, shoes, bags, wallets, and jackets. The handicraft center of the leather industry is Tangulangin.
It is located 5 kilometers from the downtown of Sidoarjo where people can purchase the best quality leathers at low prices.
Opened in August 2003, EF Sidoarjo has grown rapidly and currently has over 900 students with a Director of Studies, six full-time native teachers and five full-time local teachers. The school has a friendly atmosphere, and many of the students attend elementary schools, high schools and universities in Sidoarjo.
The school is located in the center of Sidoarjo city (30 minutes from Surabaya by highway). EF Sidoarjo is conveniently located near to two shopping malls, and to the main stadium (Sport Center). The teacher’s houses are in a residential area within walking distance of the school.
